things to know about therapy

  • ​ Usually, therapy can cost $65 (per hour) to $250 (per hour) and more, it depends on the therapist. some therapists also take insurance but a lot don't because it doesn't pay well.

  • Therapy sessions usually last from 40 minutes to 60 minutes and there are sometimes 15-minute consultations. On rare occasions, 90-minute sessions are available.

  • In most cases, mental health disorders can be treated in 12-16 sessions of therapy but remember that your disorder might not be entirely treated 

  • You can meet with your therapist at their office or online and your therapist can come to where ever you are but in some cases, they will charge you for it

  • There are more than 50 different types of therapy. Each one helps treat certain disorders and problems

  • There are certain therapists that are professionals in certain types of therapy. For example, some Therapists specialize in Cognitive-behavioral Therapy while others don't. Some therapists specialize in multiple types of therapy

Struggles in therapy

  • Not many people have the time, resources, or money for therapy
  • ​Some people don't think therapy works 
  • ​Some people are scared of going to therapy even though they shouldn't be
  • Therapists don't have the time to help everyone
  • There are too many people that need mental help and therapists cant help all of them 
  • There aren't enough therapists. This leads to people with certain mental health issues not getting help and some people in need of help have to do virtual therapy because there aren't therapists in their area

Main types of Therapy

(This doesn't include EVERY type of therapy, just some of the most popular)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a physiological treatment. CBT can help people with depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, marriage problems, and more. 

Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is when a therapist makes someone embrace their feelings, and thoughts. ACT can help people with depression, anxiety, drug abuse, drinking abuse, addictions, and OCD.

Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) is for people to improve their interpersonal relationships. IPT can help people with eating disorders, anxiety, bipolar, social phobia, postpartum depression, dysthymia, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress.

Humanistic therapy or psychology is when people try to find what they're best at. Humanistic therapy and psychology helps people that have depression, relationship problems, addiction, anxiety, personality disorder. 

Client-centered therapy is when the person getting therapy is equal in the therapy sessions. Client-centered therapy can help with mood disorders, depression, anxiety, psychosis, dementia, and post- traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
